I wish to make a prediction of what will result from the shooting that happened today in Germany...
I predict that within a month, Germany will announce gun control laws not dissimilar to those that disarmed law-abiding British shooters and basically end private ownership of most firearms by German citizens.
Any takers?
Bear in mind that Germany has extremely strict gun control laws (needs-based, licensing, registration, safe storage, training, club membership, etc). Despite the fact the shooter appeared to have stolen the gun he used from his father, a licensed owner, that won't matter. A demand will be made to do something, "Who needs a gun?!?" the average European will cry and that will be the end of it because politicians will need to be seen "doing something".
So I reasonably expect such a proposal to emerge, be passed and within a year or two, the majority of private firearms in German hands to be confiscated in order to prevent a tragedy such as this in the future.
Just like Ecole Polytechnique.
Just like Dunblane.
Just like Port Arthur.
And now, just like Albertville-Realschule Winnenden.
The pattern is always the same. I expect this to be no different. Such is the progressive mindset.
At least Americans have the good sense to realize it is the man, not the weapon, that performs the evil deed. Alas, Europe marches to a different drum. They can have it.
My sympathies to those families.

Actually, a good deal of them don't get that at all. We wouldn't have half as many gun laws in this country if all Americans got that.
I predict that the shootings in Alabama will be used the same way. Isn't it funny that every time the dimmos need an incident like this one somebody obliges them?
Laughingdog,
Perhaps. However, every time there has been a shooting in this country and despite cries for "more gun control", they don't actually make progress. And the last one that was passed in the wake of Virginia Tech was an improvement on gun rights.
While many don't get, the ones that matter with regard to passing the laws do get it. Politically, at least, because they are at least now being forced to acknowledge that new restrictions won't make these issues go away and that they will suffer for proposing them.
The carte blanche days of the Brady Campaign are gone. While Helmke is already crowing about Alabama and I expect statements to be made by some in Congress, I don't expect it to go anywhere. I think the White House realizes that despite having a tailor-made crisis for them to exploit, to actually do so will require Congress to put themselves at risk.
Or I could be wrong and we are about to see the worst gun control laws in history rammed up our collective hindquarters. I suspect I'm wrong. I don't think the Democrats have the stones for it knowing that it will cost them everything come next year.

They do?
I live in California, want to run that statement by me again?
As a law abiding gun owner in Germany, I hope you're wrong :-(
After the school shooting a few years ago, there were several addtional restrictions regarding guns. Didn't prevent the recent tragedy, though. This time they seem to focus on "violent videogames" and movies.
Keep good care of your 2A. Freedom is hardly gained, but easily lost.
